Dr. James D. Darden
In 2016, Dr. James Darden joined the Animal Medical Center of Cypress as the Medical Director. Dr. Darden graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science his from Prairie View A&M University in 2001 and completed his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2007. Following veterinary school, Dr. Darden continued his education by completing an equine medicine and surgery internship at a private specialty hospital in Weatherford, Texas. Being a native Houstonian, Dr. Darden was very excited to return home after a few years of practice in North Texas.
Prior to joining the Animal Medical Center-Cypress medical team, he provided medical guidance, leadership and surgical support for a large group of veterinary hospitals in the Houston metroplex. His passions include teaching and training perspective veterinarian students and recent graduates, how to providing exceptional service to every client and every patient.
Dr. Darden has served as the professional liaison for Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine and the Colleges of Veterinary Medicine at Auburn University, and has been a frequent lecturer on leadership skills and veterinary practice.
Dr. Darden's clinical interests include preventive care, dermatology, dentistry, internal medicine, orthopedics, and working with rescue organizations. His patients range from hamsters, guinea pigs, pot belly pigs, goats, alpacas, and cattle.
He holds professional memberships in the Harris County Veterinary Medical Association, Montgomery County Veterinary Medical Association, Texas Veterinary Medical Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association.
Dr. Darden and his wife, Brandy, have a toddler (Evan), an 11yr-old American Staffordshire Terrier (Tank), a horse named Goldie and a donkey named Francis.
Away from work, Dr. Darden enjoys quality time with family and friends, cooking, fishing and being outdoors in the piney woods of East Texas.

Krystal - Practice Manager
Krystal joined AMC in April of 2015 as Practice Manager. She has extensive experience in veterinary medicine and hospital management. First as a LVT or licensed veterinary technician and then as a hospital manager. In August of 2016, she added “CVPM” to her credentials. The Certified Veterinary Practice Manager achievement is the industry’s highest credential for practice management professionals, demonstrating the experience and knowledge and committed to the pursuit of excellence in veterinary practice.
She has been in the Houston area her entire life and has worked in general practice, emergency and specialty veterinary medicine. When she is not busy here at Heights helping pets and pet families behind the scenes, she is spending time with her hubby, two daughters and 3 dogs.

Rae - Technician Team Leader
Originally from Nicaragua, Central America, Jose moved to the United States in 1985. Shortly after moving here he began working at a veterinary clinic as a kennel technician where his appreciation and passion for animals grew. After graduating from a Grooming Academy in 1998 he worked for 10 years at Longwood Animal Hospital establishing his name and professionalism in the field. In 2009 he began working at AMC for Dr. Johnson as the groomer, “Grooms by Jose” with 16 years of experience under his belt. He’s always had a love for animals, dogs in particular & has 2 of his own, Saly & Fatboy. Jose is happily married with his wife, Jessica and 4 sons, Jose Jr, Bryan, Scott & Kevin.
Dr. Wayne Johnson
Dr. Johnson attended and graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1973. He’s worked as a relief vet throughout his years, as well as an emergency clinician at the 249 emergency clinic and Houston Humane Society. He enjoys all aspects of Veterinary medicine but has a special interest in soft tissue and orthopedics. He enjoys all outdoor activities such as fishing, hunting and even traveling and currently has an Anatolian Shepherd by the name of Athena. Update: In May 2016 Dr. Johnson retired from Animal Medical Center of Cypress to spend more time on the ranch but is still very much a part of the team and can sometimes be spotted around AMC checking on the team.
